Jackson County Arrest History
The Jackson County Sheriff makes arrests in its patrol area and operates the only published county jail. The office is the chief law-enforcement agency for Baldwin, La Motte, Monmouth, St. Donatus, and Zwingle. Maquoketa, Bellevue, and Preston have their own local law-enforcement routes, while the Iowa State Patrol may create a state report after highway enforcement.
An arrest history can include agency reports, booking cycles, and repository entries over time. Those records do not share one custodian. The officer’s agency keeps the report. Jackson County Jail keeps intake and custody material. Iowa DCI receives fingerprint-supported arrest data, and the Clerk of District Court creates a separate file only when a complaint is filed.
The Sheriff’s current jurisdiction statement is the best routing source for small communities. Older plans and meeting records describe some service arrangements differently, so a requester should identify the responding agency from the incident itself. That prevents a Chapter 22 request from being sent to an office that never created or received the report.
The official Jackson County Sheriff page identifies the county office and its current location.
This source anchors the local arrest and booking route at the current Law Enforcement Center rather than the former jail address.
Jackson County Arrest Fallback Chain
No official live Jackson County booking log or inmate roster was verified. That gap changes the first step. For current custody, call the jail or dispatch. For an old booking, ask for the booking record. For the officer’s narrative, contact the arresting agency. If a charge reached court, search Iowa Courts Online for the filed complaint and disposition.
A person who has left the jail will not appear in a current-custody response, yet the booking and arrest records may still exist. Iowa Offender Search becomes relevant only after a sentenced person enters the state corrections system. VINELink can supplement custody notifications where the service participates, but neither tool replaces Jackson County records.
No roster found: The county jail and records channels are the documented fallbacks; absence from an online search does not prove that no arrest occurred.
Looking Up Jackson County Arrests
Collect the person’s name, arrest date or range, location, and responding agency before making a request. If the agency is unknown, dispatch may help identify who responded. A complete lookup follows the record through each official custodian.
- Call Jackson County jail or dispatch for current custody because no official live roster is published.
- Request the incident or arrest report from the Sheriff, city police department, or Iowa DPS agency that created it.
- Submit the Sheriff’s Chapter 22 form for a Jackson County booking or Sheriff-held record when a routine request is not enough.
- Search Iowa Courts Online under Jackson County for the complaint, filed charge, and final disposition.
- Use Iowa DCI for a statewide name-and-birth-date history, subject to Iowa dissemination limits.
DCI accepts online, mail, fax, email, and in-person requests, but not phone requests. Its product costs $15 per last name and requires exact date of birth. A signed subject release affects which non-conviction data may be returned.
Jackson County Arrest Record Requests
The Sheriff calls its service “Records.” Reports can be requested at the Maple Street counter, by phone, or with the official public-record form. Forms go to Office Administrator Karen Wells at kwells@jacksoncounty.iowa.gov. A routine accident or incident paper copy costs $5. After request and payment, delivery may be by mail, email, or fax. Cash or check payable to Jackson County Sheriff is listed.
Accident reports are normally available five to seven business days after the incident. That published window does not promise the same turnaround for every formal open-record request. Iowa Code chapter 22 supports access to reasonably described existing records, but it does not require the Sheriff to create a new analysis. Juvenile, victim, medical, and other protected details may be redacted or withheld.

Inside a Jackson County Arrest Record
The officer’s arrest record can describe probable cause, the arrest time and place, agency, officer, and arrest charges. The jail’s booking record focuses on intake and custody. Neither should be presented as the filed court charge or the outcome.
| Booking identity | Booking number, date, time, name, and basic descriptors |
|---|---|
| Agency | Arresting agency and the route back to its incident report |
| Arrest charge | Charge description, statute or class, and related warrant or case number when recorded |
| Bond | Amount, type, and court-ordered release conditions then in effect |
| Custody | Holding location, status, release, or transfer information |
| Booking image | Created at intake, but the county page does not promise public release |
Medical information, security classification, juvenile data, and protected personal details are not ordinary public profile fields. Ask for the precise record needed and allow the office to review it for lawful redaction.
Jackson County Arrest Booking Sequence
A person taken to the Law Enforcement Center moves through identity intake, property inventory, photograph and fingerprints, record checks, medical and security screening, and charge or warrant entry. Staff then record release or bond status, initial appearance, continued custody, or later transfer. Exact timing depends on the arrest and court schedule.
Only a court or judicial officer determines the operative release conditions. A jail record may show the amount or type entered at one moment, but a later court order can change it. Match the booking to the docket before treating an early bond field as current. The same rule applies to a warrant that was later served or recalled.
Jackson County authorized the new jail for 32 beds with design capacity for an 18-bed future expansion. Older materials may still point to South Niagara Street, but the current Sheriff page controls. The county jail page is the official current facility source.
The jail page describes custody contact rules, not a searchable roster or full Jackson County arrest history.

Booking Logs and Recent Arrests
Jackson County does not publish a verified live booking log on its official site. Call 563-652-3312 for the jail or 563-652-2468 for dispatch when current custody is the question. For a releasable booking record, submit a focused request that identifies the person, approximate intake date, and record sought.
Current custody and past arrest history are not the same. A release, transfer, or sentence can move a person out of the county jail while the local booking remains. Iowa DOC Offender Search applies to the state corrections layer, and VINELink may provide custody-change alerts. Neither confirms the full local case result.
Cidnet supports visits, phone cards, and jail contact. It is not a Jackson County arrest database. The Sheriff’s forms hub gathers official request routes and jail-related forms.
Visitors and families use Cidnet under county jail rules. All visitors may be searched, intoxicated visitors can be denied, and security concerns can end a visit. Those operational rules help confirm that Cidnet serves communication and visitation. They do not add arrest charges, dispositions, or a historical booking index.
Jackson County Arrest Agency Routing
Request the report from the agency that created it. The Sheriff’s records page is not a countywide pool for Maquoketa, Bellevue, or Preston police files. A city arrest can still lead to a Sheriff-held booking because the county operates the jail. Iowa State Patrol records follow the Iowa DPS route, even when booking occurs locally.
| Record | Primary custodian | Best route |
|---|---|---|
| Officer report | Arresting agency | Agency counter or Chapter 22 request |
| Booking and custody | Jackson County Sheriff | Jail call, records counter, or request form |
| Filed charge and outcome | Clerk of District Court | Iowa Courts Online or clerk |
| State history | Iowa DCI | Name and exact DOB request |
The Sheriff forms and requests hub shows the county’s official starting points.
This source helps route a booking or Sheriff arrest request without misdirecting a city police report.
Jackson County Arrests at Iowa DCI
Fingerprint-supported arrest data flows to Iowa DCI, but its rap sheet is distinct from the jail file and courthouse docket. Without subject authorization, DCI withholds completed deferred judgments and arrests more than 18 months old when no final disposition is recorded. Juvenile court information generally remains confidential.
A “No Iowa Criminal History Found” result can mean no record, no releasable data, or confidential juvenile information. For self-review, compare the DCI response with Iowa Courts Online. If an old arrest lacks its outcome, use DCI’s challenge route and contact the contributing agency or court to resolve the source data.
The courthouse and DCI products can diverge after a deferred judgment. A discharged deferred judgment may be expunged at the court level while DCI retains a non-conviction entry subject to authorization-dependent release. Someone checking their own Jackson County arrest history should review both sources instead of assuming that one system mirrors the other.
The Sheriff fingerprint service page documents local fingerprinting by appointment.
Local fingerprint capture can support an individual’s official self-record process, but it is not a public arrest lookup.
Arrests Are Not Convictions
An arrest records an accusation and restraint. A conviction requires guilt established by plea or verdict. County Attorney review may alter or decline the arrest charge, and a filed count may later be dismissed or end in acquittal. Read the event in order: arrest charge, filed charge, disposition, then sentence if any.
| Arrest record | Conviction record |
|---|---|
| Created by an arresting agency and jail | Created by Iowa District Court |
| Shows an arrest or booking occurred | Shows guilt was established on a count |
| Lives with the agency and jail | Lives in the clerk’s case file and reported repository data |
| May be followed by release, no charge, dismissal, or acquittal | May be followed by sentence, appeal, or qualifying expungement |
Note: A Jackson County arrest is not proof of guilt; confirm every outcome in the court disposition for the filed case.
